Do you struggle with low open rates and engagement in your email marketing? It's time to start writing better subject lines that will improve your emails performance.

Why are subject lines important?

Like they say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. The same is true for subject lines – Good ones get opened, while others don’t. To help you improve your engagement we've listed some things to consider when you're writing your next subject line.

Things to consider

  • Word Count – Mailchimp recommends keeping your subject lines to no more than 9 words and 60 characters.

  • Ask Questions – Studies show that by asking a question, you increase open rates. A question can help prompt a response from your audience.

  • Action Verbs – Action words like Get, Do, Try and Make are all powerful and can help drive a positive response.

  • Make It Personal – Personalising your subject lines with the recipient's name or location has shown to increase open rates.

  • Case – Studies show that using all caps is bad. Try using title case for better results.
